Mr Rickerby verbally directed the Contractor to extend pavement widening works 200 metres past the contract limit at CH 12.000 to tie into the existing McPhee Road junction. The Superintendent stated this extension was required for traffic safety reasons and requested the crew to "just keep going" through the following day. I wish to bring to your attention that these works fall outside the contract scope as defined in Scope of Works clause 2, which establishes the contract limits as CH 0.000 to CH 12.000. When this scope issue was raised with Mr Rickerby, he acknowledged the matter and advised he would "sort it out with head office." The Contractor has instructed crews to hold works at the contract limit of CH 12.000 pending receipt of written confirmation and formal variation approval. No works will commence beyond the contract boundary without a properly executed Superintendent's Direction or Variation Order. We respectfully request that the Principal provide written direction regarding these out-of-scope works within 48 hours to avoid program delays. The Contractor reserves the right to claim additional time and cost associated with any delays resulting from awaiting this clarification. The Contractor puts the Principal on notice that the McPhee Road tie-in works, being outside the contract scope, will require a formal variation with appropriate time and cost adjustments.
